The Balboa Parks December Nights events, December 2 & 3, offer an excuse to linger in Balboa Park as daylight fades away. There'll be holiday lighting throughout the park, plus special entertainment, food, and shopping. Museums in Balboa Park will offer free admission from 5-9pm, but the fun starts at 3pm on Friday and noon on Saturday and goes to 11pm, so get to the park earlier and stay late to see as much as you can. Here's just some of what's happening:
Balboa Park is home to many of San Diego's best museums, and most of them will have special holiday-themed events during December Nights. At the Fleet Science Center, you can create your own one-of-a-kind snowflake. Mingei International Museum will showcase gingerbread structures, and the San Diego Model Railroad Museum will have a track running around its holiday tree.
There'll be performances including music, dance, and puppets at theaters and museums in the park. The musical performances include holiday classics in Celtic, Cajun, and other styles, and dance performances of course include the Nutcracker ballet.
Food and Shopping
Find international foods throughout the park. Stop by the California Quadrangle for some Swedish meatballs and glogg. There'll be chicken teriyaki, soba, and miso over at the Japanese Friendship Garden. Over at the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages, find Chinese, Ukrainian, and Panamanian dishes.
Museum gift shops will have special holiday gifts. Many will have photo stations with holiday props to take the perfect photo for your holiday cards.
