There are always great things to do with kids in San Diego. The San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Legoland are just a few of the nearby attractions that are great any time of year. But come stay with us at the holidays and you'll find all kinds of seasonal events that make your vacation memories truly unique. Here are just some of your options:
• Who doesn't love a parade? In San Diego, parades come by land and by sea. North Park's Toyland Parade has floats, marching bands, and beauty queens on Dec 3, and the La Jolla Christmas Parade on Dec 4, which features floats, vintage cars, equestrians, and marching bands, is accompanied by a holiday festival with entertainment and shopping. Meanwhile, Oceanside Harbor and Mission Bay both have a parade of lights featuring illuminated boats on Dec 10.
• There's plenty of traditional holiday entertainment. See the Nutcracker Ballet at the San Diego Civic Theater Dec 10-24. Arrive early to see professional carolers before the performance. Witness the Miracle on 34th Street, when the classic movie is turned into a radio-style musical.
• Admire Christmas trees and holiday lights all around town. The tree in Little Italy features a tower of poinsettias and will be lit on Dec 3. Or hop in a car and take a drive through our neighborhoods to see how San Diegoans decorate their homes.
• Enjoy old-fashioned Christmas at Old Town San Diego State Park. Las Posadas on Dec 11 is a traditional candlelit procession.
