Celebrate San Diego's Mexican Heritage and Mexican Independence Day at Old Town San Diego Fiestas Patrias on 9/16. California was still part of Mexico back in 1810 when the country won its independence from Spain.
The afternoon of parades and entertainment starts at noon with the ringing of the bells at Casa de Estudillo, a historic adobe house in Old Town State Historic Park. Then watch the parade featuring the Escaramuzas, women equestriennes. After the parade, the park is filled with traditional dance, music, and games for kids to join in. Old Town is full of great Mexican restaurants and shops for you to explore for treasures and tasty treats. Of course you'll want to toast to Mexican independence with a margarita!
There are other Mexican Independence Day celebrations around San Diego, too. Get a jumpstart on the celebrating at the Noche Mexicana in Oceanside on 9/10 with Mexican food and entertainment. Or celebrate a day later, with the Lawn Program: House of Mexico in Balboa Park on 9/17.
Make your own celebration with a Mexican-inspired meal at our restaurant, Bunz: A Burger Joint. You'll find Mexican flavors in breakfast choices like their breakfast burrito or South a 'd' Border scramble. You can have your lunch or dinner burger south a 'd' border style, too, or enchilada style--after your nachos or quesadilla appetizer, of course.
All the Mexican-inspired fun is easy to reach from Days Inn San Diego Hotel Circle Near SeaWorld. The transportation options at our door include the hop-on/hop-off trolley as well as San Diego's light rail and bus lines.
