36th Annual Holiday Bowl
Holiday Bowl Game and Festivities12/30/13
Parade is at 10 a.m.
A Year-End College Bowl GameTickets for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl go on sale in mid-August, so go ahead and start planning for your pre-New Year's Eve bowl day. This annual college football game is played at Qualcomm Stadium, home of the NFL San Diego Chargers. It pits a Pac-12 team against a Big 12 contender. Last year's match-up saw Baylor trounce UCLA, 49 to 19.
Before the game, head to the Port of San Diego Big Balloon Parade. Part of the Holiday Bowl festivities, this family event is a fabulous way to kick off the day. The Parade, which runs along Harbor Drive, includes dazzling floats, talented marching bands, in-sync drill teams, and-of course-ginormous balloons!
Celebrate with Your Family DowntownThe Parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown San Diego and goes until about 11:30 a.m. Before things get started, there will be the running of the Bumble Bee Foods 5K, and the 17th annual Wienerschnitzel Wieners Nationals dachshund race. Grandstand tickets will be available for purchase in the fall.
After the Parade, head to the San Diego County Credit Union Big Bay Family Festival on Broadway Pier. This free event includes carnival games, a rock-climbing wall, balloon artists, and an airbrush tattoo booth. Be sure to watch the Battle of the University Bands!
