Balboa Park December Nights
Balboa Park December Nights 201312/6, 3-11 p.m.
12/7, 12-11 p.m.
San Diego's Largest Free Community FestivalWhat better way to start the holiday season than with a wonderful cultural event? The first Friday and Saturday of December has, for the past 35 years, been an annual tradition in Balboa Park for showcasing its impressive offerings. Some of the Park's museums open their doors without charging admission from 5 to 9 p.m., on each of these evenings.
If past years are any indicator, there will be over 300,000 attendees in Balboa Park. In addition to experiencing the wonders of the museums, they'll also see amazing live music. Dancers will also entertain, including the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet. The Santa Lucia Procession is a tradition that begins at the Plaza de California.
Food...and LoveWhat's a holiday festival without food? The House of Pacific Relations Cottages hosts the International Christmas Festival. Here, visitors can sample food from around the globe, so be sure to save room for some remarkable cuisine.
For those thinking of popping the biggest question of all, here's something you won't want to miss: a unique and exciting event at December Nights is the Engagement Ring Contest. Sponsored by Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers, contestants describe their love story for the chance to win a Hearts on Fire diamond ring worth over $10,500! The winner will propose on stage on December 7, at Balboa Park's Organ Pavilion.
