The Gaslamp Quarter

Established in 1850, San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is a beautiful neighborhood of historic buildings from a classic period of architecture and aesthetics. Today, it's a thriving locale with shopping, dining, and entertainment for all. Special events happen in the Gaslamp Quarter throughout the year-sometimes it seems like there's always a festival going on here. It's also close to downtown San Diego destinations like Horton Plaza, Petco Park, and the Convention Center.

Petco Park

Right next to the Gaslamp Quarter is the home of the Major League Baseball San Diego Padres. Every seat is a good one in Petco Park, with views of the Pacific Ocean, the mountains, and of course the playing field. There are lots of scrumptious food and snack choices beyond the classic peanuts, hot dogs, and beer. Get shrimp salad and fish and chips at Anthony's Fish Grotto or chicken Caesar salad and Italian sandwiches at Brickhouse Deli. Parking around Petco Park can cost between $10 and $20, depending on the games scheduled.

San Diego Convention Center

With its warm weather year round and fun attractions, it's no surprise that San Diego is a popular destination for conventions-like the world-famous Comic Con. The San Diego Convention Center, steps away from the Gaslamp Quarter, boasts a stellar downtown location and mega square footage. Its Exhibit Hall is over 500,000 square feet alone!

  • What are my shopping options?

There are lots of local retail shops in the Gaslamp Quarter, covering everything from apparel to hardware. Art galleries like Chuck Jones and Tim Cantor represent some of the wonderful artistic talent of the area and feature one-of-a-kind finds. Get pampering treatment at Artesia Day Spa or find a treat for little ones at the zany toy store Kidz Garage. There are even more choices at the nearby Westfield Horton Plaza shopping mall where you'll find name-brand retailers like Aldo, Nordstrom, and Victoria's Secret. Horton Plaza is at Broadway and G streets.
  • What are some popular restaurants and bars?

There's always time for a cold one in the Gaslamp Quarter. Dublin Square Irish Pub & Grill has great Game Day Specials on beer, liquor, and appetizers. Bar Vie puts the swank in swanky with its upscale loungey vibe-perfect for a cocktail or glass of wine. As for restaurants, let's begin with dessert-Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop serves up sinfully decadent sundaes and floats-diets be banished! Head to Donovan's for a juicy steak, or, if you're in the mood for ‘za, Sammy's Wood-fired Pizza is the place to go.
