A Guide to the San Diego County Fair 2019
Nothing says summer in San Diego like the return of the San Diego County Fair. With tasty treats, exciting rides, and plenty of entertainment options, the county fair is a great way to experience the best of San Diego. With a Wizard of Oz theme throughout the fair, the summer is looking pretty “Oz-some” already. However, at over 370 acres, the fair boasts so much to see that it can be hard to know where to start. To be precise, this year offers 1,879 concerts and 4,187 attractions, which is certainly enough to make your head spin.
Check out our rundown of fair highlights below, and hopefully you can figure out where to start. Just be sure to keep an eye out for the Wicked Witch of the West!
Pretty much every night during the summer brings live music and stand-up comedy to Del Mar Fairground’s outdoor concert venue. A star-studded list of performers, including Jim Gaffigan, Toby Keith, Jeff Dunham, and Trace Adkins, will keep you entertained as the sun sets over the neighboring Pacific Ocean. Check out the fair’s calendar to plan your visit.
No trip to the fair is complete without classic carnival fare, like funnel cake, turkey legs, corn dogs, and cotton candy. The fairgrounds also hold a range of indoor and outdoor restaurants for those that prefer a full meal. Plenty of local favorites, including Paddock Tavern, 17 Hands Restaurant and Cantina, and Surfside Race Place, will be there.
If you’re coming for the excitement, then you won’t be disappointed. The San Diego Fair promises plenty of fun rides for all ages. Experience High Voltage, the Giant Wheel, classic Bumper Cars, the Dizzy Dragon spinners, and much more. And don’t worry if you’re not a thrill seeker – there are plenty of relaxed attractions to enjoy as well.
The San Diego Fair is also known for its competitive exhibits. One of the most well-known is the annual Paul Ecke Jr. Flower Show, where you can admire beautiful blooms and gorgeous bouquets. Come together as a family to compete in the family baking contests, test your lung strength at the bubble gum blowing contest, or rock out with your friends at the Battle of the Bands. We also recommend stopping by the Livestock Breed Show to cheer for your favorite sheep, cows, rabbits, and pigs.
