Take a Scenic San Diego Drive to Days Inn

If you’re like most, one of the first things you do when you begin to plan a getaway is check airfare rates and availability. And that’s perfectly understandable — air travel is fast, convenient, and usually fairly affordable. Still, there’s something to be said for that finest of American traditions: the good old-fashioned road trip. Whoever said “getting there is half the fun” was more right than they could’ve known. Our nation’s roadways are full of untold wonders to discover and adventures to explore. And if you’re not quite sure about flying, yet? A road trip here provides gorgeous scenery along the way to your destination. So take a scenic San Diego drive over to Days Inn and enjoy a roadtrip to remember.

Safety First

Before you head out, it’s a good idea to pay a visit to your favorite mechanic and get your ride a quick checkup. Identifying and fixing potential issues can sometimes impact the wallet a little, but it’s hard to put a price on peace of mind — especially when you get an early warning on things that could become bigger problems down the road. Any friendly neighborhood wrench expert can check your fluid levels, inspect tires, maintain brakes, and see to it that all your bulbs are burning bright. That way, you can get moving with confidence.

Clean Cars Drive Better

Heading to a car wash before you leave is a great idea. Not only is showing your car a little love before a road trip always a great way to have pride in your ride, but de-cluttering the interior is also beneficial. Giving your car a good once-over to sweep out the water bottles, burger bags, gum wrappers, and other detritus will create an atmosphere of freshness for everyone inside. Even better, lightening the load can also reduce the weight. In turn, that results in better gas mileage. Don’t forget to give the trunk a sweep while you’re at it — all the better to pack extra luggage, snacks, and adventure gear.

Make a Plan

When it comes to getting from point A to point B, a little planning goes a long way. If you really want to enjoy your trip, it’s often a good idea to plan your stops a bit. Are there any fun restaurants along your route? Don’t be afraid to build in time to visit. Roadside attractions may be heavy on the kitsch, but they make for great photo-ops. And, of course, taking the occasional restroom break is a road-trip necessity. So don’t be afraid to embrace spontaneity, but always make sure you keep your destination in mind.

Pack the Snacks

Buying snacks for a road trip can be an adventure in and of itself. Be sure to load up in advance of your trek. You’ll save a lot of time and money not having to pull over for pricey gas-station provisions — after all, you shouldn’t need to stop every time you feel a little parched or peckish. Leave room in the vehicle for a cooler full of water, plus healthy snacking options like protein packs, trail mix, or beef jerky to help sustain energy. And since road trips are supposed to be a lot of freewheeling fun, you don’t necessarily need to skip the candy and soda — just be sure to balance them out so you don’t experience sugar crashes.

Car Tunes

The right soundtrack can take any road trip from good to great. So why not take the time in advance to put together a custom playlist? Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming services are great for assembling a curated collection of songs that will keep your spirits up during the drive. The open road might also be a good time to catch up on audiobooks or podcasts. Just be careful: If your route takes you through mountainous or open regions, data reception can be unreliable. So it can help to have an emergency backup cache of downloaded content ready to go just in case.

Reach the Beach

San Diego isn’t just a great road trip destination — it can also be a fantastic place from which to strike out in search of adventure. Heading up Pacific Coast Highway in the summer will have you cruising past some of the world’s most picturesque beaches, charming seaside towns, unique boutique shopping, and world-class restaurants.
