Why You Can’t Miss the Annual Sandcastle Sculpture Competition

Sun, sand, and a little friendly competition. What more could you want? The annual Sandcastle Sculpture Competition captures all of these things and more at the Broadway Pier and Pavilion in San Diego. Spectators and professional sand sculptors come from all over the world to participate in competitive sand castle construction. Watch the sand castle sculptors at work, and even pick up a few tips and tricks from the pros. And don’t expect just any old sand castles you’d see strewn around the beaches in San Diego: these are some serious structures fit for a museum. More than ten master sculptors will be in attendance this year, each spending four days working on their projects independently.

The weekend will also be filled with other activities and entertainment to keep all land lubbers happy. Gourmet food trucks will be on site, as well as live cover bands of the Beatles, Elvis, and the Beach Boys. There will also be sand castle-themed activities for kids of all ages, from which proceeds will go to various educational charities in the San Diego area. Plus, the festival’s location on Broadway Pier makes it in close proximity to other San Diego summer favorites, such as the USS Midway Museum, the Seaport Village, and more.
