Winter Wellness in San Diego

Winter is here. And although San Diego doesn’t really experience the season in the traditional sense, the days are a bit cooler, the nights are longer, and the general pace of life slows just a little. Since it can be a challenge to focus on health this time of year, we’ve put together some handy tips on how to focus on your winter wellness here in San Diego. Read on for some health news you can use.

Healthy Eating

Your body is only as healthy as the fuel you put into it. And even though it’s easy to grab a burger or some tacos from just about any corner fast-food place, over time, making poor choices can really affect your health and energy levels. If you’re looking for health-friendly fare, there are plenty of San Diego restaurants that offer both taste and nutrition. If you’re staying with us, then head to True Food Kitchen (inside Fashion Valley Mall, just down the road from Days Inn) for a scrumptious spread that won’t leave you feeling sluggish, or try the delicious plant-based dishes at Café Gratitude.

Enjoy a Spa Day

There are few activities better for recovering your sense of calm than heading to a day spa for some serious pampering. Enjoying a relaxing massage, skin treatment, or other restorative therapy can really hit the “reset button” on your overall well-being. Different local spas offer varying services, but all are a great way to refresh and revitalize. Check out the “Pamper Yourself: San Diego Spas” blog from our sister property Pacific Terrace for some suggestions.

Beach Yoga

Yoga is the age-old practice that melds physical and spiritual wellness into one serious stress-relieving session. And since yoga in the open air is possible here year-round, beachfront Yoga has really taken off in San Diego. Check out Trilogy Sanctuary, Yoga at the Beach, or Spirit Yoga Studios and start finding your center. All are welcome to accepting new clients and have sessions that range from beginners to expert level. Why not namasté your day away?

Pedal-Pushing

Biking is another extremely popular activity here in sunny SoCal, thanks to our exceptionally agreeable climate. In fact, San Diego was recently ranked as one of the top 10 most bike-friendly cities in the US. Experienced cyclists will discover nearly endless miles of bike trails criss-crossing the area. One of the city’s most popular rides is the famous 24-mile circuit, which takes riders through Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and Downtown along its length.

Take a Hike

Hiking has taken off in popularity in recent years thanks to how easy it is to get started and its undeniable health benefits. It’s particularly popular here in San Diego thanks to our perfect weather, varied terrain, and abundance of walkable park space. The best part? You don’t even really need any special equipment to get started. If you’re looking for a good point of entry, “The Best San Diego Hikes for Non-Hikers” post from our colleagues at Humphreys Half Moon Inn is a handy overview of the area’s most accessible trails.
