Our Employees’ Favorite Fall Drinks
Although San Diego gets lots of sunshine year-round, in autumn, the temperatures cool down (relatively) to the mid- and low-70s. It’s perfect weather for sitting by the fireplace and sipping a delicious beverage, whether a specialty coffee drink or a cocktail. In order to make it easy on you, we’ve solicited our staff members’ top recommendations for the best such drinks to enjoy this fall season.
Bonita, Guest Services: Hot Toddy
Bonita, from Guest Services, is highly attuned to the change in temperature. She suggests drinking a Hot Toddy because it’s “so good when it’s crisp outside.” Polite Provisions, located in North Park, is an excellent option for ordering this classic pick-me-up.

Warm up this weekend with a hot toddy, a classic cocktail that makes for the perfect sipper on crisp fall days and chilly nights. We’ve got you covered with an easy recipe from Craft Cocktails, a new cookbook from the folks behind @dillonsdistills, a craft distillery in Ontario. To make this delicious drink even more seasonal, replace the tea with hot apple cider. Cheers! (Recipe below.) 📷: Nataschia Wielink Photography @nataschiawielink #HotToddy #CocktailRecipe . Ingredients 1 tea bag (Earl Grey or orange pekoe) 1 tablespoon liquid pure honey 1½ ounces rye whisky ½ ounce fresh lemon juice Lemon wheel and cinnamon stick, for garnish . Steps 1️⃣Bring at least 2 cups of water to a boil. Pour 4 ounces into a small teapot, add the tea bag, and let steep for 3 to 5 minutes. 2️⃣Pour the remaining boiling water into a mug or heatproof snifter glass. Once the glass is warm, dump the water out and coat the bottom of the mug or glass with the honey. 3️⃣Add the rye whisky, lemon juice, and steeped tea. Stir. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a cinnamon stick.

Javion, also a Guest Services Agent, associates autumn with Jack Daniels American Honey. It’s not just the smooth flavor and sweet aroma that he loves, but the drink’s medicinal properties: “It helps when you’re sick.”

Martha, from Housekeeping, recommends hot chocolate with marshmallows because it’s “perfect by the fireplace.”

Sales Coordinator Raly springs for Starbucks’ legendary PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte): “It reminds me of Halloween!”

Yazmin, a Guest Services Agent, likes a drink that gives a nod to surrounding SoCal: mango wheat beer. She claims it tastes great and warms her up.
Karen, Front Desk: Apple Cider
Karen, our Front Desk Manager, chooses apple cider because of her children, who “love to drink it on fall nights.”
